Yesterday, on May 28, the Library on Gazetny held a public lecture “Climate cashback: How to develop trade of carbon units?” Experts, business representatives and academic communities, and everyone concerned about the climate agenda gathered to discuss the current state and growth potential of one of Russia's youngest markets. Despite almost 37 mn carbon units (CU) that are already in circulation and another 107 mn planned to be released, market participants notice the following trend: the number of climate projects is growing, while liquidity and transaction volume remain low.

Researchers at the Gaidar Institute’s Industrial Organization and Infrastructure Economics Department analyzed how technological development affects economic growth in Russian regions and concluded that there was no universal approach to supporting innovation. The same tools can accelerate development in one region and have almost no effect in another. The study’s findings demonstrate that Russia’s technology policy must account for the specific characteristics of individual regions—ranging from the level of scientific and infrastructure development to access to markets and human capital.

By 2040, China’s economy may see its growth rate slow to approximately 2% per year, and the country’s population will shrink by nearly 60 million people. This is the conclusion reached by experts from the Economic Policy Foundation and the Gaidar Institute in a study published RBC.
