Sergey Drobyshevsky has been awarded the International Leontief Medal “For Contributions to Economic Reform”

On March 21, 2026, in St. Petersburg, Sergey Mikhailovich Drobyshevsky, Doctor of Economics and Principal Researcher at the Gaidar Institute, was honored with the International Leontief Medal “For Contributions to Economic Reform.” This prestigious award was presented for his outstanding contributions to the theory and practice of macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, as well as for his development of key directions in the economic, monetary, fiscal, and tax policies of the Russian Federation.

During the ceremony, Sergey Drobyshevsky delivered a presentation “Coordination of Fiscal and Monetary Policy in the Russian Federation: Impact on Macroeconomic Dynamics,” in which he addressed current issues regarding the interaction of fiscal and monetary instruments and their role in ensuring sustainable economic growth.

Sergey Drobyshevsky is one of Russia’s leading experts in the field of macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, and throughout his academic career he has successfully combined fundamental research with participation in shaping the country’s economic policy. Under his leadership and with his direct involvement, recommendations were developed to improve fiscal and monetary policy, forecasts of socio-economic development of the Russian Federation, as well as analytical materials for federal executive bodies, including the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Federal Tax Service, and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

For many years Sergey Mikhailovich provided expert support to the economic bloc of the Government and the Bank of Russia contributed not only to improving the quality of decisions made but also to fostering a sustainable culture of an evidence-based approach grounded in modern advances in economics.

This award holds particular significance given that Yegor Timurovich Gaidar—the founder of our Institute—was one of the first recipients of the Leontief Medal, and the awarding of the medal to Sergey Drobyshevsky continues the proud tradition of recognizing the contributions of the Gaidar Institute scholars to the development of economic thought and reform in Russia.
