Vladimir Sedalishchev, Expert at the Economic Policy Foundation of the Gaidar Institute, spoke to “Vzglyad” about the key trends shaping the global economy and explained how they affect Russia.
According to the expert, the global economy is currently undergoing a period of significant transformation. Among the main factors, Vladimir Sedalishchev highlighted geo-economic fragmentation, climate change, demographic shifts, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. These processes are already altering international trade, the structure of the global economy, and the conditions for economic growth.
Vladimir Sedalishchev noted that Russia, like most countries in the world, is facing all of these challenges. Intensifying sanctions pressure and the restructuring of international trade ties require the search for new markets and partners; demographic changes are placing additional strain on the labor market; and climate change presents both risks and new opportunities. At the same time, artificial intelligence could play a significant role in the coming years, as it has the potential to boost labor productivity and support economic growth.
“Artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly boost labor productivity and become a source of long-term economic growth, especially in the context of an aging population. However, it cannot eliminate the consequences of climate change or geopolitical conflicts. AI will help use resources more efficiently and optimize production, but it does not eliminate the fundamental constraints of the economy. Therefore, it is a powerful driver of development, but not a universal solution to all existing problems,” emphasized Vladimir Sedalishchev.
