NATALIA SHAGAIDA: “FOR THE FIRST TIME ANNUAL PRICE VOLATILITY HAS EXITED THE EXTREME ZONE”

Natalia Shagaida, Head of the Agrarian Policy Department of the Gaidar Institute commented to the Agroinvestor on the RF Ministry of Agriculture’s statement on stability of the pricing situation in the agricultural sector.

The Ministry of Agriculture assesses the pricing situation on the Russian food market as stable and the price momentum being within the limits of seasonal trends, the agency reported. It is typical for this period of the year to see the appreciation of prices for some fruits and vegetables on the back of a shrinkage of supply on the market of domestic open ground vegetables, says the RF Ministry of Agriculture’s statement.

Natalia Shagaida said that in October the annual volatility of prices exited the extreme zone for the first time since the end of 2020. “Judging by the indicator in annual terms for the past 12 months relative to the present day, the price volatility stayed in a moderately high zone. If we take quarterly figures, it was normal starting from June 2022, the expert said.
