Konstantin Kazenin, senior researcher at the Center for Political Economy and Regional Development, Gaidar Institute, gave a comment to MN publication on the initiative to raise young generation’s maximum age to 35.
Draft law on the rise of the ceiling for young generation up to 35 was recently submitted to the State Duma. Authors of the initiative explain that by the need to provide possibility to a host of young people to take hold of state support measures.
“Some age-related standards applied in life journey which in Russia stayed very stable in the course of, at least, second half of the 20th century, really changed during the last decade, and first of all, in the context of demography: later plans to start a family, have children later. This is a common European trend, which is getting momentum in Russia. That is why, there are compelling reasons to expand age range for defining a young family,” – noted K. Kazenin.
“The notion ‘young people’ is also a complicated concept. It can be understood differently. If we go by demographic realia, then the period of young age is when people are ready to start a family, get ready to become parents or just became parents. That is why, age range of a young family is being expanded really,”- recapped expert.
