Kirill Chernovol: Labor productivity in Russia's SME sector remained at last year's level

Labor productivity in Russia’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector stood at approximately Rb1 mn per employee per year in 2025.

This assessment was provided in a comment for Vedomosti by Kirill Chernovol, Researcher at the Gaidar Institute’s International Best Practices Analysis Department, based on current data.

According to him, the current figure has remained virtually unchanged compared to 2024, when productivity stood at around Rb1.02 mn per employee. However, exact figures cannot yet be determined: Rosstat has not yet published final data on the value added generated by the SME sector in 2025.

Despite stagnant indicators, companies continue to seek internal reserves to improve efficiency.

“SMEs are increasing productivity by streamlining processes, reducing losses, providing short-term applied training, and rapidly digitizing routine operations—first eliminating unnecessary steps and downtime, then scaling up digital solutions,” noted Kirill Chernovol.
