In memoriam of Nina Grigorievna Glavatskaya

On January 15, 2026, Nina Grigorievna Glavatskaya passed away at the age of 83. She was Head of the Editorial and Publishing Department at the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy and the editor-in-chief of all works published by the Institute for more than 30 years.

Nina Grigorievna was born into a military family. In 1961, she enrolled at the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy, which she successfully graduated from. She began her career at the Research Institute of Economics and Planning under the USSR State Planning Committee and subsequently worked at the country's leading academic institutions: the Research Institute of Chemical Industry under the Ministry of Chemical Industry of the USSR, the Research Institute of the Central Statistical Administration of the USSR, the Central Economic and Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (CEMI), the Institute for Market Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences (IPR), the Institute for the Economy in Transition (IET), and the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation.

Nina Grigorievna devoted more than 33 years to publishing at the Gaidar Institute. As an experienced and demanding editor, she played an important role in preparing for publication the fundamental works of E.T. Gaidar, including such landmark books as Collapse of an Empire: Lessons for Modern Russia, Russia: A Long View, and State and Evolution: Russia’s Search for a Free Market, which are rightly considered bestsellers and remain academically significant to this day.

She also participated in the publication of the series of monographs The Economy of Transition, the annual reviews The Russian Economy: Trends and Prospects, and the Institute's regular analytical publications Monitoring Russia’s Economic Outlook and Monitoring of International Legal Regulation Trends for the Development of Legislation in the Digital Economy in Russia and many others. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and deep understanding of economic issues ensured the highest quality of all publications.

Colleagues remember Nina Grigorievna as a person of exceptional kindness, inexhaustible optimism, integrity, and dedication to her work. Her contribution to the development of the Institute's scientific and publishing activities cannot be overestimated.
