Publishing house “Nlobooks” is out with a book “Five Five-Year Liberal Reforms. Origins of Russian Modernization and Egor Gaidar’s Legacy" by Andrey Kolesnikov.
The book explores and assesses the intellectual and political history of Russia's liberal reforms of the 1990s intertwined with the biography of their chief architect Egor Gaidar. The author's project of Gaidar and his team included radical transformations. But hereby, according to the author, they were inevitable and had no alternative. Their ultimate success depended on the consistency of the development of the democratic institutions. The author shows the history of Russian modernization and Egor Gaidar's legacy, and tries to answer whether successful reforms are possible in Russia.
