Experts of the Gaidar Institute analyzed the trade dynamics between Russia, the US and the EC

The TASS has published a series of materials devoted to an analysis of Russia's foreign trade structure through 2025. The TASS assessed the conclusions of the analytical review «Monitoring of Russia’s Economic Outlook” No. 3 (208), 2026, prepared by the experts of the International Trade Department at the Gaidar Institute.

According to TASS, the US share in the structure of Russia's foreign trade by the end of 2025 was approximately 0.9% of exports and 0.2% of imports. Trade flows also varied. On the one hand, a significant increase was recorded in US purchases of Russian radioactive materials and isotopes (uranium), reaching $1.06 bn, 62% higher than the 2024 figure. On the other hand, imports from the US to Russia also increased: shipments of pharmaceuticals grew by 47% (to $195 mn), while medical and optical devices increased by 10% (to $169 mn). Together, these two categories account for more than 60% of all US exports to Russia.

Furthermore, the Gaidar Institute experts recorded trends in the fertilizer market. The TASS emphasized that despite the overall sanctions pressure, nitrogen fertilizer exports from Russia continued to grow: the US increased imports of this product by 89%, to $1.17 bn. The study also noted that fertilizers, radioactive materials and isotopes, as well as platinum and platinum group metals, accounted for 86% of all Russian goods exported to the US.
