Diana Golovanova, Researcher of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute, told the Moscow City News Agency how much might it cost for residents of the capital to celebrate the main Eastern Orthodox holiday.

According to the expert, Muscovites could spend over Rb 4.7 bn on Easter celebrations in 2026. Calculations involve adult population of the capital (approximately 10.85 million people), a minimum spending of Rb 591 per person, and a 74% share of those celebrating.

Diana Golovanova clarified that the cost of a minimum foods set and items for preparing for Easter in Moscow this year exceeds last year's figures by 6% and amounts to approximately Rb 591. By comparison, the average price for a similar basic set in Russia is Rb 522. Meanwhile, the average prices for essential Easter items in Moscow are: kulich (Easter cake): Rb 294 (8% more expensive than in 2025), a dozen eggs: Rb 127 (4% cheaper), and a set of food coloring: Rb 170 (+ 11%).

The expert also mentioned that to add paskha cottage cheese (ready-made paskha costs an average of Rb 695, while homemade cottage cheese costs Rb 213 per 0.5 kg), the cost increases to Rb 1.200. When creating a full Easter menu, the cost can increase several times.

Diana Golovanova also noted that in 2026, shoppers began to increasingly switch to budget-friendly items and supermarket private labels. She advises market participants to use last year's baskets and towels: refusing purchasing new decor can save approximately Rb 950.
