Antonina Levashenko: All you need to know about additional tax charges for business

The Izvestia daily reported that the Federal Tax Service has again increased additional tax charges for businesses on the back of tax audit results. Although such charges decreased in 2023, they picked up again to nearly Rb310 bn in 2024. Antonina Levashenko, Head of the International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute, commented on the situation.

According to  Antonina Levashenko, the problem is not that companies wanted to hide income, but that they simply did not have time to react to changes. For example, 2024 saw changes in VAT: new forms of declarations, invoices, payment rules for the sale of EAEU goods via electronic trading platforms and other.
In general, additional tax charges can reduce profitability, limit working capital and create additional risks, particularly for small and mid-sized businesses, which are often the most vulnerable to such burdens. This creates problems for entities, as the general environment for development is not quite favorable right now, Antonina Levashenko added.
