ALEXEY VEDEV: “RUSSIA EXPECTS STAGNATION AFTER PANDEMIC CRISIS

On February 27, Alexey Vedev, Head of Financial Studies Department of the Gaidar Institute, took part in a discussion on the YouTube channel “Find a Mammoth”. The talk was dedicated to the topic: what can we expect from global economic policy in 2021?

In his speech, Alexey Vedev emphasized that in 2020 Russia faced 3 shocks: the coronavirus pandemic, falling oil prices and falling demand for Russian exports due to the slowdown in global economic growth. Instability in the financial sector had a significant negative impact on the entire national economy. However, according to the expert, the forecast for GDP growth in the Russian Federation in 2021 in the range of 3-4% is unreasonably optimistic. Russia expects stagnation after pandemic crisis.
