ALEXEI VEDEV ON THE REASONS FOR WEAKENING OF THE RUSSIAN CURRENCY EXCHANGE RATE

Alexei Vedev, Head of the Financial Studies Department at the Gaidar Institute, named the causes for weakening of the Russian currency exchange rate in a comment to MK.

According to Alexei Vedev, the rate of the ruble will stabilize and will reach Rb85 per dollar. The current weakening of the ruble is primarily due to market forces: in particular, in November, Brent oil prices fell by 10% compared to September-October to $80 per barrel. Respectively, sales by exporters of foreign exchange earnings also declined. As for potential measures of the state influence on the exchange rate, they can be taken only after the dollar passes the threshold of Rb95 per dollar.
