ALEXANDER DERYUGIN SAID FOR HOW LONG RUSSIA WOULD STAND THE PRESSURE OF SANCTIONS

In his interview with the FederalPressAlexander Deryugin, Researcher of the Budget Policy Department of the Gaidar Institute said that the Russian economy would not be hurt in long-term under the pressure of the West.

Alexander Deryugin notes that the economic situation in Russia will be comfortable minimum for two-four years despite sanctions provided that the country’s current situation remains unchanged and no further isolation of Russia takes place.

“We do not know what will happen tomorrow. If the situation remains the same as now, there will be no problems for two-four years, nor will they occur in long-term, but expenditures need to be cut gradually to achieve it,” Alexander Deryugin said.

According to Alexander Deryugin, the global crisis has affected Russia, too. “But the outlook may be revised because it depends on the extent of isolation of Russia,” the expert added.

Alexander Deryugin notes that Russia has a large margin of safety to adjust to any limitations. “If tougher sanctions are introduced, Russia will adjust to them and find workarounds. Western sanctions against Iran failed and I think in case of Russia they will fail too,” Alexander Deryugin sums it up.
