Together with Gaidar Institute Press and the Dal, a philosophical bookstore, the DH Center is launching a series of four meetings dedicated to philosopher Shoshanna Zuboff's books "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Battle for the Human Future on the New Frontiers of Power" and "Surveillance Capitalism or Democracy?"
We shall be reading and discussing "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Battle for the Human Future on the New Frontiers of Power" and "Surveillance Capitalism or Democracy?" together with Maximillian Neapolitansky, philosophy researcher, author of the books "What Is Truth?" and "Who Invented the Earth?", editor of the "Vchemsut" media outlet and postgraduate student at the DH Center and Artem Serebryakov, researcher at the Department for Critical Theory of Culture at the NRU Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg. We will discuss how surveillance capitalism is changing not only the economic system, but also the political one; what mechanisms it uses to predict and control user behavior; and what threats it poses to modern democracy.
