The Gaidar Institute has become a co-organizer of the Annual B. A. Grushin Sociology Book Award. The award ceremony will take place on Sociologist’s Day, November 13, 2026, at the “Biblioteka na Gazetnom” venue.
The award was established in 2020 in memory of Boris Andreevich Grushin, an outstanding Russian sociologist, founder of Soviet empirical sociology, philosopher, and sociological methodologist. It is presented to the authors and translators of the best sociological works published in Russian during the previous year.
The award’s founders are the VTsIOM Analytical Center and the National Research University “Higher School of Economics.” The main organizer is the VTsIOM Analytical Center, and the co-organizer is the E. T. Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy.
The jury, consisting of 20 experts recognized within the sociological community, evaluated the works in four categories: “Best Book Based on Applied Research,” “Best Theoretical Work,” “Best Popular Science Book,” and “Best Translation.”
On September 15, the award’s longlist was announced; in 2026, it included 27 works. Among them were studies of Arctic cities and local communities, youth identity and historical memory, the Russian IT industry and public opinion, works on social theory and the methodology of social research, as well as translations of works by Angus Deaton and Anne Case, Randall Collins, Kate Mann, Yi-Fu Tuan, Jürgen Habermas, and other authors.
