SERGEI TSUKHLO: SUCH A LARGE-SCALE INTENT TO LEAVE THE NUMBER OF WORKERS UNCHANGED HAS NEVER BEEN REGISTERED

Sergei Tsukhlo, Head of the Business Surveys Laboratory, the Gaidar Institute has commented on the labor market situation to the Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily.
As per the data of the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy, most industrial enterprises do not plan to create new jobs, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily reports. According to Sergei Tsukhlo’s data, in Q3 2019 the absolute majority of managers of enterprises (83%) reported about their plans to keep the existing number of workers unchanged.

“Such a large-scale intent with Russian industrial enterprises to leave the number of workers unchanged has not been registered in any quarter since the beginning of the monitoring of this index in 1993”, explained Sergei Tsukhlo.
According to the economist, the previous “record” was registered in 2018 when 78% of managers of industrial enterprises reported about their plans to freeze the expansion of their staff.
