On May 22, Gaidar Institute Library and the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka) hosted a discussion of Shoshana Zuboff’s book “Supervisory Capitalism or Democracy? Confronting Institutional Orders and the Politics of Knowledge in Our Information Civilization”, where Antonina Levashenko, Head of the Gaidar Institute’s International Best Practices Analysis Department, and Andrei Zubarev, Senior Researcher at the Gaidar Institute’s Digital Finance Research Department, participated.
“Supervisory Capitalism or Democracy? Confrontation of Institutional Orders and the Politics of Knowledge in our Information Civilization” is devoted to such an acute issue as the lag in the evolution of institutions (primarily legal ones) in relation to the risks associated with the ‘misuse’ of technologies for collecting, analyzing and using individual data, which are accelerating in their development.
The event was held in the format of a live dialog, allowing participants not only to hear the speakers' opinions, but also to ask questions and share their impressions of the book.
