The TASS has reviewed the issue  No.14(196), 2025 of the analyst survey ”Monitoring of Russia’s economic situation”, prepared by the International Trade Department of the Gaidar Institute. Alexander Knobel and Alexander Firanchuk, Senior Researchers, have analyzed Russia’s international trade in the first 5 months of the current year in a report called “Russia’s international trade in January-May 2025: commodity turnover with China has reduced.”

The study showed that share of imports from unfriendly countries continues to decline and now amounts to 16.5%, being three times lower than prior to introduction of sanctions. The authors note that the reorientation of trade has generally been completed in terms of both imports and exports. According to mirror statistics, the share of Russian exports supplied to unfriendly countries has stabilized at 15%, which is four times lower than the pre-sanctions period figures.
