On May 20, a meeting of the Scientific Council took place at the Gaidar Institute, where the thesis of Tatiana Ivakhnenko, Researcher, Mathematical Modelling of Economic Processes Department, submitted for the PhD degree in economics, was discussed.

The thesis submitted for review is focused on the topic: “Development of approaches to modeling the socio-economic state of Russia’s regions using the example of intra-regional income inequality factors.” This study is of theoretical significance for understanding the mechanisms affecting income inequality in Russia’s regions. It classifies and categorizes findings according to such key factors as raw material orientation of industries, economic complexity and digitalization.

During the meeting members of the Scientific Council got an understanding of the key aspects of the thesis research, assessed the scientific novelty and practical significance of the findings.

Following the discussion, the Scientific Council of the Gaidar Institute highly evaluated findings of the research and decided to recommend Tatyana Ivakhnenko’s thesis for defense, noting that the results obtained can be used to formulate a concept of development and combat high levels of inequality in the regions, as well as useful for predictive analytics.
