On Moscow 24 Kirill Chernovol, Researcher at the Gaidar Institute, commented on the State Duma deputies' proposal to introduce mandatory wage indexation in the commercial sector in line with inflation.

The expert noted that in practice, this issue is currently regulated mainly by market mechanisms. “Large companies that are traditionally export-oriented do this regularly,” Kirill Chernovol said. However, the situation in small businesses is different. “Since they have fewer opportunities, they act more cautiously. Often, indexation is either selective, replaced by one-time payments, or compensated by non-financial support measures, which are now gaining popularity,” the expert explained.
