On October 13, the Nobel Committee announced the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences to the eminent economic historian Joel Mokyr. The award was given for identifying the historical preconditions for sustained economic growth through technological progress and demonstrating that continuous innovation requires not only practical knowledge but also a scientific understanding of how technology works.
Joel Mokyr became the 14th Nobel laureate in economics whose books were published by the Gaidar Publishing House. His works had a profound impact on our understanding of the origins of the industrial revolution, the role of knowledge in economic growth, and the mechanisms of innovative development.
Our collection includes three of his fundamental works:
”The lever of riches: Technological Creativity and Economic Progress”
“The Gifts of Athena: Historic Origins of the Knowledge Economy”
”The Enlightened Economy: Britain and industrial revolution 1700–1850”
We are proud that there are 14 Nobel Prize laureates in economics among the Gaidar Institute Publishing House's authors, whose ideas continue to inspire and shape our understanding of economics.
