If dialogue between Russia and the U.S. continues after the Alaska summit, certain sanctions — particularly those affecting payments and project implementation — may be lifted in the near term, said Ivan Ermokhin, a research fellow at the Gaidar Institute’s Laboratory for the Analysis of Best International Practices, in a comment to RIA Novosti.

“In the short term, if the dialogue progresses, we may see targeted sanctions relief related to transactions and project execution. In the long term, the issue of frozen Russian reserves will need to be addressed,” the expert noted.

Ermokhin also expressed optimism about the prospects for renewed business cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted that such cooperation could particularly develop in the oil and gas sector, aviation, and IT. “Previously, for example, American companies such as ExxonMobil and Boeing had a strong presence in the Russian market,” he recalled.
