International conference “Socio-economic development of Russia: new frontiers” was held on 26-27 October 2007

The conference was timed to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. Vladimir Mau, rector of the Academy, opening the conference, congratulated the faculty and students with the anniversary and gave the floor to Dmitry Medvedev, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.


The First Vice-Prime Minister congratulated the Academy with the 30th anniversary and read out the appeal of Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation;. In that appeal the diversity, dynamism of development of the Academy, which meets the highest world standards of higher education, was noted in particular. Vladimir Putin also wished the Academy new successes. 

Dmitry Medvedev, First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russian Federation, in his speech stressed that the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration is one of the first higher educational institutions, which prepares the cadres at the highest levels and is at the origin of the first training programs MVA and DBA in Russia . He also noted that the  Academy’s brand remains very popular. Then First Deputy Prime Minister dwelled on the issues of realization of national projects in Russia.

The conference was continued with the report of Michael Garrett Fitzgerald, the ex-Prime Minister of Ireland: “On the way to the Irish economic miracle”. Academic Abel Aganbegyan elaborated on health issues and training for that socially significant sphere. In conclusion, A.G. Aganbegyan congratulated the team of the Academy with the 30th anniversary and noted that during this time over 100 thousand students had graduated from the Academy.  

The board chairman of JSC “Sustainable Development Fund” K. Kelimbetov made a report “The development Institutions as factors of competitiveness”. Next was the Dean of the Moscow School of Management “SKOLKOVO” Andrei Volkov, who presented a report on the theme “Long-term problems of education.

Dmitry Medvedev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation granted the Honorary diploma of the Government of the Russian Federation to the following workers of the Academy: E. Karpukhin, vice-rector; V. Komkova, head of the Department; dean V. Kuznetsov; rector V. Mau. Also he announced gratitude to the professor A. Volkov, head of the department V.Danilin and head of the department V. Gallimulina.

Alexei Kudrin, deputy Chairman of RF Government, Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation read out the greeting letter with congratulations to the participants of the conference from Viktor Zubkov, the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. It was especially pointed out that the Academy trains highly qualified specialists in compliance with international requirements to take the leading positions in professional training and creates the business elite in Russia. In the main part of his speech Alexei Kudrin elaborated on the main directions of economic policy. Speaking at the conference, Sergey Stepashin, chairman of the accounts chamber of the Russian Federation also congratulated the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration with the anniversary and stressed the importance of the Academy as an institution for the training of civil servants.

Sergey Stepashin noted that the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration is a leading center of training of highly qualified personnel and of the output of proposals for the development of the national economy. Igor Shuvalov, assistant of the President of the Russian Federation, in his short greeting congratulated Academy and emphasized the role of its rector Vladimir Mau in the organization of educational and scientific processes.

The reports at the conference were also made by:  Peter Gerendasi, general director of Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Russia, Wilfried Bergmann, deputy general secretary of the German Society of Academic Exchanges, Esko Aho, the former Prime Minister of Finland, Grant Bagratyan, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Boris Pavlov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan.

On October, 27, 2007 the conference continued its work on the 16 sections.
