GIP will participate in the non/fictioN27 International Fair and present L. Xiaohuan's book “The Visible Hand: The State and Economic Development in China.”

The event will bring together more than 300 leading publishers, book trading companies, and independent publishing projects from all over Russia.

A special event will be the presentation of Lan Xiaohuang's book The Visible Hand: The State and Economic Development in China, published by Gaidar Institute Press in 2025.

The book, which became a real bestseller in China (with a circulation of over 1.5 million copies), is the first to systematically reveal the mechanisms of the Chinese economy, where the key role is played not by the “invisible hand” of the market, but by a targeted state strategy. The author analyzes the complex interrelationships between macroeconomic trends, central and regional relations, the land and real estate market, public finances, the bureaucratic system, inequality, the stock exchange, industrial policy, and foreign trade imbalances. Through the prism of real-life business cases from various industries and companies, Lan Xiaohuan shows how the state attracts capital and directs it towards the development of the national economy.

The presentation will take place on December 5, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the non/fictioN27 discussion platform in Hall 1.

The discussion will be attended by:

  • Ilya Chubarov, Candidate of Geographic Sciences, Scientific Editor of the book.
  • Alexander Knobel, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Director of the Institute of International Economics and Finance VAVT.
