Gaidar Readings in Erevan

On April 18-19, Gaidar Readings "Russia and Armenia: Lessons of the Reform" were held in Erevan.


The event was organized by the Gaidar Institute, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the Yegor Gaidar Fund and the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University.

Welcoming messages were made by Tigran Sargsyan, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan, Rector of the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University, Armen Darbinyan, Minister of Education of Armenia in 1998-1999, Armen Ashotyan, Minister of Education and Science of Armenia. In the framework of the Readings, there was opened the first auditorium named after Ye.T. Gaidar outside Russia.

 

At the plenary session, presentations were made by Vladimir Mau, Rector of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Jacob Urinson, Deputy Chairman of OAO RUSNANO Board, Armen Darbinyan, Director of RUSNANO Humanitarian Projects , Leonid Gozman, RAU Professor, Grant Bagratyan, Professor of Kiev Banking University, Deputy of the National Assembly of Armenian Republic, the Prime Minister of Armenia in 1993-1996, Abel Aganbegyan, Chairholder of economic theory and policy in the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, etc.

 

In the afternoon of the day, there were held round tables: with representatives of large business and the banking sector of Armenia (monitored by Boris Mints, President of OAO FC OTKRYTIYE, Chairman of Yegor Gaidar Foundation) and "Freedom after Captivity. Armenian and Russian Experience".

 

Plenary session of the second day of Gaidar Readings in Yerevan was led by Sergei Prikhodko, Executive Director of Gaidar Institute.

 

Presentations were made at the meeting by the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy staff members: Vladimir Nazarov, Head of Fiscal Federalism Department and Pavel Trunin, Head of Monetary Policy Department. The discussion was also attended by Yuri Suvaryan, Academician, Member of Armenian National Academy of Sciences Presidium, Tigran Davtyan, Minister of Economy of Armenia, Edward Sandoyan, Director of the Institute of Economics and Business of the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University, Minister of Finance and Economy of the Republic of Armenia in 1998-1999, Seppo Remes, Professor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EOS Russia.

 

On the second day of Gaidar Readings public lectures were presented by Vladimir Mau, Rector of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Vladimir Nazarov, Head of Fiscal Federalism Department of Gaidar Institute, Victor Yaroshenko, Chief Editor of the "Vestnik Evropy" magazine.
