Gaidar Institute Press presented a book by Lan Xiaohuan “The Visible Hand: The State and Economic Development in China” at the non/fictioN27.

The event brought together experts and interested readers to discuss one of the most influential works on China's contemporary economy, complex interrelations between macroeconomic trends, central-regional relations, land and real estate markets, public finance, bureaucracy, inequality, stock exchange, industrial policy, and trade imbalances.

• Ilya Chubarov, Scientific Editor of the Russian translation of the book.
• Alexander Knobel, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Gaidar Institute International Trade Department.

Speakers considered the main themes of the book, which examines the role of the state in China's economic miracle, and answered questions from the audience. Particular attention was paid to the history of preparing this comprehensive study for Russian-speaking readers, sparking a keen interest in the future of the Chinese economy and its lessons for other countries.
