Evgeny Goryunov: “Macroprudential limits will help banks to discipline lending in the face of growing debt”
Goryunov Evgeniy L.

Evgeny Goryunov, Head of the Monetary Policy Department at the Gaidar Institute, commented on the decrease in the number of borrowers and the growing interest in credit cards, especially among young people, on the Moscow 24 TV channel. According to the Bank of Russia, the country’s debts are rising, including those owed to microfinance organizations.

According to the expert, in the context where many Russians already have loans and the risk of default is growing, banks need to be cautious when issuing new loans. Macroprudential limits are one of the tools that contribute to this.

“Banks, for example, introduce macroprudential limits, which actually discipline the bank in terms of who it can give a loan to and who it cannot,” Goryunov emphasized.
