Dmitry Evdokimov, Researcher at the Gaidar Institute's Quantitative Analysis of Economic Effects Department, commented on the situation in the European automotive industry for TASS. According to him, the sharp decline in car exports from the European Union was a direct consequence of sanctions and the disruption of trade chains.
The expert noted that for many European brands, the Russian market, especially in the premium segment, was significant. “Due to its loss, the EU has to compensate for the lost volumes by reorienting itself towards other regions, primarily the Middle East and Asia,” he said.
According to Dmitry Evdokimov, this strategic reorientation was a necessary measure for the European automotive industry in response to the loss of one of its key sales markets.
