Dmitry Evdokimov, a Researcher of the Quantitative Analysis of Economic Effects Department at the Gaidar Institute, commented to Izvestia on declining business activity in the Russian processing industry. Despite negative trend, the expert believes that it is premature to acknowledge the economic recession.

"The trend is negative, however, it does not mean an inevitable economic downturn, especially in the context of continued activity in the military and infrastructure sectors," said Dmitry Evdokimov. "Maintaining or changing this trend will largely depend on further dynamics of budget expenditures and the Central Bank’s policy in terms of the movement pattern of the key rate," the expert noted.
