The US announcement in August 2025 regarding the introduction of tariffs could mean either maintaining the current rates or raising them to 75–100%. This forecast was given to RIA Novosti by Antonina Levashenko, Head of International Best Practices Analysis Department at the Gaidar Institute.
The introduction of additional tariffs may be linked to a 1.4% decline in steel production in the US, Antonina Levashenko stressed, adding that “tariffs on importers are necessary to support domestic producers. At the same time, according to the expert, Donald Trump stressed that “exceptions to tariffs will be made for foreign companies investing in American production.”
