Anton Beloglazov, Head of Evidence-Based Economics Department at the Gaidar Institute, commented for Nezavisimaya Gazeta on the current situation in the construction industry.

According to the expert, the findings of HSE researchers on low level of profitability in construction reflect reality rather loosely. «Typical level of profitability in the construction industry is within 9–10%. In 2024, profitability of construction organizations was 9.8%, which is only slightly below the average level in the economy (12.7%). However, the industry is really lagging behind other basic sectors. Construction traditionally evidences relatively low profitability with high capital intensity, long investment cycles and significant dependence on borrowed funds," explained Anton Beloglazov.
