Alexandra Bozhechkova on the ruble exchange rate

Alexandra Bozhechkova, Senior Researcher, Monetary Policy Department at the Gaidar Institute, told RTVI, how economy will respond to actual strengthening of the national currency.

The expert noted that inflation is currently high in Russia, and strengthening of the ruble will contribute to its slowdown by reducing prices, including for imported goods. However, the ruble strengthening reduces the competitiveness of some Russian industries compared to imports.

However, since the current strengthening of the ruble is short-term and situational, it is important to avoid impulsive purchases or sales of currency. If currency is needed for an investment portfolio, it is better to buy it evenly.
