The 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE VESTNIK EVROPY MAGAZINE

The presentation of the two latest issues (No.53-54 and No.55) of the Vestnik Evropy magazine was held in the online mode because of the coronavirus pandemic. And finally, on May 18, 2021 the live presentation of the latest two issues and the celebration of the magazine’s 20th anniversary were held.

The program included the presentations of the following authors: poet and playwright Alexander Gelman, economist Andrei Nechayev, artist and member of the Academy of Arts Tatyana Nazarenko, actor and writer Grigory Sluzhitel, political analyst Arkady Dubnov, Venice-based artist and writer Katya Margolis, movie critic Adrei Plakhov, poetess Tatyana Voltskaya from St. Petersburg and Alexei Paperny who presented the entire concert of his songs.

Viktor Yaroshenko, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine and poet Tatyana Scherbina, Deputy Editor-in-Chief were the moderators of this evening event.

Participants included members of the Board of Trustees and the Governing Board of the Yegor Gaidar Fund Sergei Dubinin, Andrei Nechayev, Grigory Tomchin, Pyotr Gaidar, Sergei Prikhodko (Executive Director of the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy), Andrei Medushevsky, a Karamzin Medal laureate, HSE Professor and longtime contributor, as well as writers, artists, photographers and the magazine’s authors and friends.

Viktor Yaroshenko presented the “Ad Nuncius Europae/Vestniku Evropy” Karamzin medal to poet Vladimir Salimon “For the outstanding contribution to the Russian poetry and in the light of the 20th anniversary of the revival of the magazine in which he has taken a longstanding creative participation” and playwright Alexander Gelman “For the outstanding contribution to the Russian dramatic art, remarkable public activity and creative cooperation with the Vestnik Evropy magazine.”

By decision of the magazine’s founders Y.T. Gaidar, E.Yu. Genieva and V.A. Yaroshenko, Karamzin medals in honor of N.M. Karamzin, founder of the magazine have been granted since 2005. During this period, the “Ad Nuncius Europae/Vestinku Evropy” Kramzin medals have been awarded to philosopher G.S. Pomerants; translator S.K. Apt; poet and translator G.М. Kruzhkov; film director А.А. Vasiliev; J. Roberts (the UK); legal expert-social scientist professor А.N. Medushevsky; public figure S. Slavich (Slovenia), social scientist and economist М.V. Borschevsky; writer S.А. Lurie; writer Ya.А. Gordin; Russian culture historian and Librarian of Congress James Billington; historian Karol Modzelevsky (Poland), linguist and culture expert, academician V.V. Ivanov; philosopher V.K. Kantor; and now poet V.I. Salimon and playwright A.I. Gelman.
