IRINA DEZHINA ON RUSSIA’S INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION

In its latest issue, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta published an article by leading researcher at the Gaidar Institute’s Social Services Department Irina Dezhina, where the author reflects on with whom and how Russia is going to carry on its international cooperation in scientific research.

Irina Dezhina believes that modern science implies an expansion of international cooperation in various forms. By way of cooperation, access to knowledge and technologies can be facilitated, financial costs are shared, and it becomes easier to provide adequate solutions to interdisciplinary problems. International interaction increases the “visibility” of research results and the citation rate of scientific articles. Moreover, econometric studies have shown that integration into the realm of world science correlates not only with higher rates of development in science, but also of economic growth.
