Publishing House of the Gaidar Institute translated and published an outstanding book on practically unknown bottom side of modern progress, that is, the rare metals. The book is so easy to read and it presents impressive facts. Our world would be the same as in early 1990-s without an increasing use of these elements which are practically not tackled at school lessons of chemistry. The book unveils a huge range of opportunities associated with this precious resource including political ones. However, it would be much more interesting to find out answers to more prosaic questions: why screens of smartphones are so fragile and why they are not made more durable? Why we are not able to place windmills globally to produce green energy? What is the reason for such a poor recycling of thrown waste and electronic devices? Why we support cannibal regimes all over the world?”
