Are there leading economists in Russia, and who are they? (press release)

The paper provides summary of an empiric research conducted for the sake of making a list of noted economists who work now in Russia. Identification of those who can be named leading economists was made on the basis of a combined approach that comprised computation of the number of their journal publications, including overseas sources, and an expert survey to find out those who have earned the greatest recognition in the expert community. The authors have concluded that it appears impossible to compile the list of noted economic experts, and currently in Russia there are several communities of actively working researchers, with interaction between them being loose.
