ALEXEY VEDEV: THREAT OF INFLATION REMAINS EXTREMELY LOW

Alexey Vedev, Head of Financial Studies Department of the Gaidar Institute, expressed his opinion to gazeta.ru on extremely low threat of inflation in the current event of crisis.
He noted: “I am not expecting any sharp acceleration of inflation. On one hand, rise in prices will be determined not so much by speculative demand for various foodstuffs, which, I think, has already discontinued, as by Ruble devaluation.”
According to expert of the Gaidar Institute, imports will get more expensive in the near two months,  likewise some Russian analogues can rise in prices.
“On the other hand, this refers to constraints of domestic demand. Most of the forecasts indicate that reduction of real disposable incomes of households is expected this year. In this context, it would be erroneous to expect significant accelerating rise in prices. I assume that inflation will be close to targeted level,” concluded Alexey Vedev.
