ALEXEI VEDEV: WE HAVE PROPOSED FOR LONG TO USE ALTERNATIVE STATISTICS

In his interview to the TASS News Agency, Alexei Vedev, Leading Researcher of the Gaidar Institute shared his views on the idea of using a new approach to accounting the poverty in Russia.
The reconciliation of the data of the Rosstat as regards the level of poverty in Russia with those of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) and the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation (PFR) may help upgrade the standard of the statistics, Alexei Vedev, Former Deputy Minister of Economic Development believes.

"Certainly, it will promote it.  We have proposed for long to use the alternative statistics, including and, primarily, tax and banking statistics.  In addition, it is necessary to take into account the “big data”, that is, transactions on bank cards and other", Alexei Vedev said to the TASS News Agency.

As per the document prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and published on the federal web site of draft laws and regulations, the final estimate of the number of people with incomes below the minimum subsistence level is proposed to be formed “with taking into account the verification based on the households income data of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation and the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation”. The Rosstat has been within the jurisdiction of the RF Ministry of Economic Development since 2017.
