NATALIA SHAGAIDA: “RUSSIAN MARKET OF ALTERNATIVE MEAT CAN GROW IN FUTURE, HOWEVER, IT WILL BE INSIGNIFICANT RELATIVE TO THE COMMON MARKET”

Natalia Shagaida, Head of Agrarian Department of the Gaidar Institute, commented to IA REGNUM on the news that the market of alternative vegetable meat constituted less than 1% compared to the European one.

“Expansion of the alternative meat market depends on several factors, in particular, on the product features (taste, nutritional value, origin: vegetable, chemically created, made from other animal proteins), low cost of production and ability to pay as well as growth of a group of consumers choosing alternative meat. A conscious rejection of animal products, opting for a cheaper or more environmentally friendly product are among the reasons,” said Natalia Shagaida.
